As some of you may have known, or haven’t known, I’m a HUGE Prince of Persia fan.  Since the old schools days when it was on the PC with its side scrolling gameplay and out of this world difficulty.  However it was still one of my favorites.

Then came Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (PoP: SoT) which is by far my favorite in the series.  The story was excellent, but what made it so good was the acrobatic platforming.  The game was like 75% platforming and 25% combat, give or take.  I had never thought they can put so many cool ideas to build on from the original.  From the wall running to the acrobatic combat, OOO SO GOOD!

Its sequel was Prince of Persia: Warrior Within(PoP: WW).  Building off on where PoP: SOT left off.  This one was OK but did have the magic as the first.  One thing the story was quite weird with all the time travel and changing your fate aspect.  They went for this sort of dark vibe with it.  What was quite weird was most of the music was from the band Godsmack, with heavy metal type of music playing while you are taking out some dudes, weird music choice.  Mainly instrumental as the lyrics were not in the game, Thank God.  It didn’t really add anything new except a new additions to the combat.

To cap of the trilogy was was Prince of Persia: Two Thrones(PoP: TT).  Again building off on where Warrior Within left off.  This one had the prince have dual personalizes in which he would randomly turn into this evil dark guy who wields a giant whip filled with small daggers.  This was cool especially when you got to be the evil guy but it only happened at specific points and they were quite short.  In addition they added a speed kill gameplay with a more stealth approach for the prince.  They were simply quick time events for when you snuck up behind an enemy.  PoP: TT was quite fun and enjoyable but again it did bring anything new like how the the original 3D version did.  But at least it was better that PoP: WW.

Now the guys over a Ubisoft have decided to come out with a new Prince of Persia, coming out on December 7th of this year.  And as I saw this announcement I ran over to the store and preordered my copy. Oh as always preorder your copy here.

Once I saw this game in motion my jaws dropped.  The graphics looked beautiful.  I am not talking about like Gears of War were Omg they make your eyes bleed.  This is like someone took a paint brush and drew and painted the graphics.

So I have two videos today.  Basically explaining the two major points of the Prince of Persia, the platforming and the combat.

The first one is major focus on the platforming acrobatics.  While your watching take a looks at those gorgeous graphics.

LIKE DUDE OMG! they have totally overhauled on what the graphics used to look like and they have decided to go with a brand new prince.  With an unknown companion in Elika, who as you clearly have seen greatly helps in some of the maneuvers.  Although the magic of the first one is still there they have actually added new stuff to the acrobatics to make me, a huge PoP fan, go crazy.

The next video explains the new combat system.

Again you guys at Ubisoft keep amazing be.  Brilliant, Bravo.  By making the combat more like Soul Calibur and have only one on one battles with the enemy greatly opens up some new options.  One the AI can greatly improved to make it feel like these bad fools can actually take you out.  And the addition to Elika with her magic attacks, can help with the chaining of some really sick combos.  Another bonus for making the game one on one battles is that it makes the battles more cinematic which can provide some really cool camera angles to really make the fight feel tense.

The first two sequels tried to add something new but they could never produce the effect of what PoP: SoT did from going 2D to 3D.  However with the fourth installment the whole game is new.  New graphics, new combat, new acrobatics, new gameplay.  Thank God this game is coming out during the tail end of the major game season that is occurring during end of October through the beginning of November.

Can you believe that this game is running on the Assassin’s Creed Engine,  I can’t.

Here is some Assassin’s Creed Gameplay:
